*********************** DeluxePaint® AGA ReadMe File ************************
This DeluxePaint IV AGA Demo is freely distributable for
non-commercial purposes only.
Electronic Arts would like to thank and aknowledge all those
customers and beta testers who provided us with great feedback
and reports on how to improve the program. We would also like to
remind everyone that we are always looking for suggestions on how
to make this program the best it can be.
We sweat blood and tears at trying to make this the program for everybody
and we want to keep making better versions of DeluxePaint, but remember
piracy and "lending your software" hurts everyone, if you want the Amiga
to survive please support the software and peripheral companies and your
local dealers by buying their wares. This will insure that your favorite
computer will thrive and continue to be supported. If you've been using
copies of different companies' software, including our own, now is the
time to seriously think hard about making some legitimate purchases!
Spread the word, not the software.
Version 4.5 Demo - 12/23/92
Load, Save, Print, Delete, and Copy & Paste have been disabled. The
commercial version of this software will be shipping at the end of January.
The retail price is set at $199 US. Upgrades from previous versions are
available by calling our direct sales department at 1-800-245-4525.
Note: Some of the information below does not pertain to this demo.
Version 4.5 - 11/13/92
There have been several changes made to this version of DeluxePaint IV.
After you're through reading here, please consult the Readme First
Manual Addendum for the major changes to this version of DeluxePaint.
The Following are changes that didn't make it into the ReadMe First Addendum:
1. The Floppy Install can take upwards to 25 minutes for a complete install
and requires three writable floppies that will be formatted by the
installer prior to a complete installation.
2. The player is capable of scrolling bitmaps larger than the screen.
To scroll, move the mouse in the direction you want to see the image.
3. If you are installing to a hard drive, make sure you boot from your
hard drive and *not* from the install disk.
4. DeluxePaint AGA was not tested to work with the A2024 type monitors.
Therefore we do not claim compatability with this monitor setting.
5. If you receive a "Can't Load..." error message chances are the program
cannot allocate enough memory to load your file in the chosen screen
format. Choose a lower resolution or fewer colors and try again.
6. The icons provided with this release are 8 color icons optimized for
Amiga DOS 3.0, if you normally run your workbench in 4 color mode
there are 4 color icons for the program and player in the 2.0Icons
drawer that is installed by the DeluxePaint Installer. Simply replace
the Dpaint.info and Player.info files with those in the 2.0Icons
drawer.
7. This version of DeluxePaint does not support printing to a Postscript
printer device.
8. Because of the way rub through works, if you are using a pressure
sensitive tablet (with translucency) with a spare page or
animation frames and the lighttable on, you will pick up data
from the page you are seeing through.
9. We do not recommend switching in and out of DeluxePaint to the
Workbench or another application while an animation is running
or being created. Stop your animation before switching out of
DeluxePaint.
** Version 4.1 - 3/92 **
The following are changes and fixes for this version:
1. Scalable fonts under Amiga DOS 2.04 are now supported.
To create a scaled screen font for your work session, simply
choose your font, and type in the size you would like.
Press the Show or Ok buttons to select that font size.
DeluxePaint will automatically create the screen font for you.
Please contact your dealer for information on obtaining additional
fonts for your Amiga computer. DeluxePaint does not come packaged
with any additional fonts other than the two Kara Fonts included
on Art Disk #1.
2. Palette Dialog Modifications:
(Mixer, Arrange Palette, Range Requester, Load/Save Color Set)
a. Notches have been added to indicate the color number more clearly.
b. The 3D look of the Color Indicator was removed to improve
comparison of the current foreground and background colors
next to each other.
3. Extended selection of colors is now available in palette dialogs,
for copying, deleting or exchanging multiple colors.
a. Press Shift and click the left mouse button to add a single color
to the current selection.
b. Press Alt and click the left mouse button to add all colors
between the last selected color and the newly selected color
to the current selection.
c. Press Shift and click the right mouse button to remove a
single color from the current selection.
d. Press Alt and click the right mouse button to remove all colors
between the last selected color and the newly selected color
from the current selection.
For example: Left-click color 4 in the current palette to select it.
Press Alt and left-click on color 12, colors 4 through 12 should
all be selected now. Click Delete: colors 4 through 12 should
now be empty color cells.
Use Shift-click to add or delete non-contiguous colors in your
selection.
4. The Metamorph brush size restriction of 250 pixels for the
width no longer applies. The brush size is now dependent only
on the amount of memory available. This means that if you
have enough memory, you can do full screen metamorphosis.
5. There is a new Tooltype to set the offset of the DeluxePaint
Toolbox and Anim control Panel in extreme overscan. It is Called
ToolLimit. Format: ToolLimit=Min X, Min Y (0), Max X, Max Y
Min X is the position of the left edge of the Anim Control Panel.
Accepts values between -1 and 49.
Min Y is currently ignored, place a zero (0) in its place.
Max X is the position of the right edge of the Toolbox.
Ignores values less than 320.
Max Y is the position of the bottom of the Anim Control Panel.
Ignores values less than 200.
Tooltypes are set up in the DPaint Icon Info. ToolLimit lets
you set up positions for your Toolbox and Anim Control Panel
so that, as you work in overscan, your Toolbox and Anim Control
Panels are visible on the screen. You should only have to set
this tooltype once in lo-res maximum overscan as it will scale
itself in the other modes. (Please read all steps before
attempting to set the ToolLimit.) The following is an easy way
to set up your ToolLimit tooltype.
a. Start DeluxePaint in Lo-Res Max. Overscan (368X241 NTSC)
or (368X290 PAL).
b. In the Prefs Menu turn on Coords and OriginUL.
c. Press F10 to turn off the toolbox and menus; press F9 to turn
the Menu Bar back on so you can see the coordinates.
d. On your monitor, place your cursor at a point in the lower
left corner of the screen. Make note of the coordinates.
These coordinates will be your Min X, and Max Y.
e. Place your cursor at the right edge of the monitor. Make note
of the first coordinate, this will be your Max X.
f. Exit the program and select the Dpaint icon. Choose
Workbench->Info (under 1.3) or Icons->Information (under 2.0).
g. Create a new Tooltype, and type in: ToolLimit= (Followed by
the notes you made) separated by commas. Here are two
examples: ToolLimit=20,0,350,220 (recommended for NTSC)
ToolLimit=20,0,365,280 (recommended for PAL)
Note: If you do not want to limit any of the fields, place a -1
in that field to tell DeluxePaint to use that view's limit.
6. A Show check button has been added to the Load Anim requester to hide
and show anims when loading. Dpaint will turn off the display
when the Show button is unchecked. The default is to show
anims as they are loaded.
7. CTRL-Keypad 0 now resets perspective mode, including the vanishing
point. Shift-Keypad 0 still works as documented. See your
DeluxePaint IV manual, page 276 for more information.
8. Cycle paint will now start to paint with your foreground color
(if it is in the current range) and cycle to the next color
in the range from there. Previously, Cycle paint would always
start with the first color in the current range, no matter
what your current foreground color was.
9. DeluxePaint IV does not support Anims with multiple palettes.
DeluxePaint IV will now warn you when attempting to load this
type of Anim.
10. The Alt + Left Amiga keys will now perform a single brush stamp.
The Alt + Right Amiga keys perform a single brush stamp using
the background color. Previously DeluxePaint would Anim Paint
if these keys were pressed together.
11. Paint Stencil can now be used to create a fixed stencil that
will not change as you AnimPaint or use the Move requester.
Area based stencils will not change on each frame while color
based stencils (those created with the Make Stencil requester) are
recomputed for each frame and are based on that frame's colors.
12. The Caps Lock is now ignored unless you are in Text mode.
13. The Player program on Art Disk 2 is a new version that fixes
incompatibilities with PAL machines.
If you would like to print out this ReadMe file to your Printer, load
the file into any text editor or word processor, and follow that
program's instructions for printing a file.
